I help leaders and organizations find their voice and their place in the conversation about how we build a more equitable society.

Discussions about racial and gender equity were once confined to a corner of the nonprofit sector. Now, in a country transformed by a global pandemic and a racial justice awakening, a level of engagement with and fluency in this conversation is expected of organizations and their leaders, from school board members to Fortune 500 CEOs.

Whether you are just getting started down this path, or have been on it for a while now, I can help you.

The consistent theme of my career has been public policy—understanding its real impact on people's lives and working to make it better. I have worked on issues including education (K-12 and post-secondary), homelessness, global health and development, democracy, and campaign finance reform. I’ve experienced, both in these sectors and in myself, the slow evolution from a "color blind" approach and sensibility toward a recognition that the inequities we now see more clearly in our society were built in from the start. They can only be dismantled with historical understanding and intentional effort.

This work can be challenging, and the best results happen when relationships are grounded in trust and candor. I prefer to work with organizations and leaders who are either planning or have begun some deeper learning about equity for themselves and their organizations. Ideally, this work shouldn't start with communications.

When you are ready to communicate, I will help you identify who you need to reach and what you need to say, recognizing that your first audience is often internal. I can help you decide which platforms to seek out and which ones to avoid and work with you to write the words you need: Speeches, Op-Eds, talking points for a media interview or a panel discussion, and everything in between. I can also advise on network building and prepare you for key meetings. Where services beyond what I offer are needed (such as media monitoring or social media channel management) I can recommend trusted firms or work with your preferred firm.
